The Library of Congress is using the photo-sharing Web site Flickr (where you can post photos and invite people to comment on them and tag them) to pilot a folksonomy project in which it can learn more about some of its collections and encourage public discussion about them. It’s in the Prints and Photographs Reading Room online and is called, simply, Library of Congress Photos on Flickr. A quick visit will show you the power of social networking/social indexing.
