come see I2 outreach

You’re invited to ROB 309 (CRMS building) on UK’s campus to view an outreach program using Internet2 (I2), scheduled for 12:30-2pm (Eastern time) TODAY, Thursday, May 15. The event is called BIG BLUE on I2, and it features University of Kentucky’s BIG BLUE project (creating and testing inflatable wings for flight over Mars!), UK’s own Suzanne Weaver Smith, PhD, and NASA’s lead technologist for the Mechanical Systems Division at the Jet Propulsion Lab in California, Gregory Davis, PhD. Dr. Davis served as the mechanical systems engineer for cruise, entry, descent and landing on the Mars Exploration Rover (MER) Project. We’ll be connecting with Paul Laurence Dunbar High School (Lexington) and Scott County High School, and we know that Trigg County High School and Nelson County High School will join us by viewing a live stream. Others are welcome to watch the stream as well. Just contact Patsy for more information.

I2 provides great capacity (with far fewer users than the commodity Internet) for sharing information and completing research. It’s possible to remotely operate things like telescopes and scanning-probe microscopes with I2. What can you do with I2?
