blogs and wikis on Bb

Have you tried the blogs and wiki features that we’re offering for University of Kentucky classes in Blackboard? Here are some instructions for setting them in your Bb course. Blogs and wikis can be set up for the whole class, small groups, or individuals.

Blogging in Blackboard

  • In Bb, go to your course.
  • Go to the Control Panel.
  • Enter the area in Content Area where you would like to place the blog (for example, perhaps in Assignments; you can even create a new area titled Blogs, if you like).
  • In the Select menu (far right), choose Blog from the drop-down menu and click on the Go button.
  • Complete the form according to your needs.
  • To delete a blog, go to the Control Panel and find the Course Tools listing. Choose Recycle Blogs.
  • Keep in Mind: 1. The Bb blog is attached to the specific course, just like a discussion board. 2. You can allow your students to “export” their blog entries so that they can keep them after the course is over.

Building a Wiki in Blackboard

  • In Bb, click on your course.
  • Enter the area in Content Area where you would like to place the blog (for example, perhaps in Assignments; you can even create a new area titled Wikis, if you like).
  • In the Select menu (far right), choose Wiki from the drop-down menu and click on the Go button.
  • Complete the form according to your needs.
  • When in the wiki, use the menu options in the menu at right to edit, create new pages, etc.
  • Keep in Mind: 1. The Bb wiki is attached to the specific course, just like a discussion board. 2. You can allow your students to “export” the wiki so that they can keep it after the course is over.
